ANTISTATIC TREATMENT (AS) OF NON WOVEN FABRICS

INHERENT VS TOPICAL

Surgical gowns made from non woven fabrics with Antistatic properties are essential in high-paced medical situations as an untreated fabric PPE may generate static charge created by friction while the medical professionals are working. As the doctors have to work quickly and with precision in various situations, a static charge might cause an accident in the OT which may be life threatening to the patient and the medical team as well.

There are 2-kinds of antistatic treatments available for medical PPEs made from non woven fabrics:

INHERENT TREATMENT

In this treatment, the resins are additivated with the AS masterbatch during the extrusion stage. The AS properties infused through this treatment process are optimal and deliver average performance.

TOPICAL TREATMENT

In this process, the fabric is first manufactured on a spunbond/spunmelt production line and is then treated for the AS properties inline with an appropriate application technique. This method ensures better efficacy due to its surface application. There are some “AS” chemistries available that deliver AS performance with minimum drop in Hydrohead barrier.
